The Optimum Health Clinic psychology approach has been created out of an immense amount of experience, not only in the teams own personal experiences of ME/CFS, but also having worked with literally thousands of patients in over 35 countries. What has become clearer and clearer to us over time is that different interventions tend to address different parts of the picture. For example, some approaches are helpful at certain stages of the illness (see “The Art of Pacing” article) and other approach can be effective with certain subtypes (see “ME in the 21st Century” report). However, because we believe the OHC approach is the only one that understands these different elements, it is also the only approach that directly addresses all of them. The OHC approach is something that is constantly in refinement and development, and through drawing on the best of many different perspectives, we believe it is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The below grid is a helpful way of visualizing some of this and understanding where we believe other approaches are focused.LightningProcessReverseTherapyEFTCBTPsychotherapyOHCStages of the illness1.
